How to Get There

By Bus:

Buses to the two ferry ports (either Mersing or Tanjung Gemok) leave Kuala Lumpur from Terminal Bersepadu Seltatan (TBS). The journey takes approximately 5 1/2 hours and we generally recommend to take the night bus (between 10pm and 11:30pm) so that you can take an early morning ferry to Tioman.

Best way to book tickets is online i.e. via easybook.com, redbus.my, busonlineticket.com or catchthatbus.com.

By Car:

To Mersing (search “Mersing Jetty ” in Waze or Google Maps):

  • Once you reach Mersing turn left at the T-junction. About a kilometer further at the roundabout go straight (12 o’clock). Ferries out of Mersing run multiple times daily. The departure times change daily as the ferries can only depart at high tide (see ferry itinerary further below).

Ferry tickets must be booked well in advance (several weeks if you plan on coming over public holidays).

Only BLUEWATER FERRIES stop in Air Batang. Do not book Cataferry (they don't go to our location)!

Bluewater Ferries:

  • Multiple different vessels (speed ferries)
  • 1 to 3 departures daily
  • MYR 60.00/way if booked directly via www.bluewater.my
  • MYR 80.00/way if booked through us since we have to pay our agent

A Marinepark fee is payable at Mersing Harbour Centre in cash (currently MYR 5.00 for locals or MYR 30.00 for foreigners).

Once you have the tickets you will need to wait for the boarding pass counter to open and get your boarding pass. They will call the colour of your pass once the ferry is ready for boarding.

The journey takes some 2 to 2 ½ hours and we highly recommend to bring some warm clothing in your hand luggage as it might get cold inside.

Your destination is Air Batang (aka ABC), which is usually the 4th ferry stop). Once you arrive in ABC, walk down the jetty and turn left. You’ll come to our reception/dive centre after a leisurely 3-5min walk. Please let us know in advance if you will require assistance with your luggage so that we can arrange for a pick-up service. You can also call our office on +60 9419 1218 or email us if you need further assistance.

Tanjung Gemok is located some 35 minutes north of Mersing and thanks to the large river mouth they do not depend on high tide to run ferries.
