SCUBA DIVING ON TIOMAN
a must do activity when in Malaysia
Tioman Dive Resort aka TDR is solely owned by B&J Diving Centre Sdn. Bhd., which was established in 1986.
The Malay/German/Swiss owners saw the need for high quality accommodation on Tioman Island in Malaysia and built Tioman Dive Resort between 2010 and 2012. The hotel is being well maintained and regularly renovated.

Scuba Diving in Malaysia is considered a must among divers and those who want to become certified divers. Tioman Island offers a truly fascinating holiday and scuba diving destination. Join us for daily dive trips if you’re already a certified diver or for a PADI dive course. Diving in Malaysia, truly Asia!
Tioman Dive Resort is owned by B&J Diving Centre Sdn. Bhd., a PADI 5 Star Career Development Centre (the highest PADI rating you can achieve).
We have something for everybody, if you’re just learning to dive or if you’re already a seasoned diver seeking new adventures. PADI dive courses are offered daily and so are our dive trips where we head to some of best dive sites in the South China Sea.
COURSE INFORMATION
The PADI Open Water Course takes some 4 days to complete and we start courses literally every other day with small group sizes (average of 2 to 4 students).
We will arrange that you can complete the theory before arrival (eLearning) so you can fully focus on the practical part when you are on Tioman. There you will spend the first 3 days learning basic scuba diving skills in our pool and during shallow ocean shore dives. On the 4th day you will head out on our dive boat to some of the best dive sites around Tioman for your final 2 Open Water dives toa depth of maximum 18 meters/60 feet.
COURSE PREREQUISITES
- You must know how to swim
- there will be a 200m swim test or a 300m snorkelling test
- You must know how to float
- there will be a 10 minute float test
- You need to be able to answer all questions in the PADI Medical Statement with NO

DAY 1:
- Arrival with a morning ferry

DAY 2:
- 09:00am – Meeting at the dive center
- 09:30am – 1 pool session or shore dive (Confined Water Modules 2 and 3)
- 12:00pm – Watermanship assessment (swim test, float test, skin diving)
- 12:30pm – Lunch Break
- 1:30pm – 1 shore dive (Open Water Dive 1)
- 4:30pm – Logbook and debriefing
DAY 3:
- 09:00am – Meeting at the dive center
- 09:30am – 1 shore dive (Confined Water Modules 4 & 5)
- 12:00pm – Lunch Break
- 1:00pm – 1 shore dive (Open Water Dive 2)
- 4:30pm – Logbook and debriefing
DAY 4:
- 08:15am – Meeting at the dive centre
- 08:30am – Departure by boat to the dive sites
- 09:30am – 1 boat dive (Open Water Dive 3)
- 11:00am – 1 boat dive (Open Water Dive 4)
- 12:30pm – Return to dive centre, Certification
- 2:30pm – Departure
FUN DIVING (for already certified divers)
If you’re a certified diver then you should surely not miss out diving in Malaysia on Tioman Island, home to some of the healthiest coral reefs in South East Asia and a myriad of marine life. It’s considered The Best Scuba Diving Destination on Peninsular Malaysia.
Expect to dive the most beautiful coral gardens in the South China Sea, swim with a huge variety of tropical reef fish, turtles, sharks, cuttlefish, search for nudibranchs and explore the many swim throughs.
Dive groups are always kept small with an average of 4 to maximum 6 divers per PADI Professional. We ensure that our dive equipment is regularly maintained and follow strict safety standards.
Dive Itinerary:
- We meet daily at the dive shop at 08:00am for our morning trip that includes 2 guided boat dives and from which we return before 1pm. This trip brings you to the northern dive sites of Tioman in the vicinity of Coral Island.
- In the afternoon we meet at 2:00pm for the third dive of the day, and this time we’ll visit a dive site closer to Tioman Island. We’re usually back by around 5pm.
- Night dives and shore dive are arranged as well

- Dive rates including equipment rental and guide start at MYR 130.00/dive and get cheaper the more you dive
PADI DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING (try out diving)
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to find out but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course then join our PADI Discover Scuba Diving program (aka DSD), which allows you to try scuba diving first to see if you like it.
While not an actual scuba certification, during the Discover Scuba Diving experience you’ll learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.
You will learn the basics of diving under the direct supervision of our PADI Professionals.
You will get your first scuba experience in our swimming pool where our PADI Instructor will take you to try out the basics of scuba diving. After practicing some necessary skills in the pool you’ll be going on a shore dive where you will find yourself gliding along the reefs and fishes of Tioman Island. This dive will take you to a maximum depth of 12 meters.
- Duration: Approx. 3hrs.
- Start time: Usually in the afternoon
- Costs: MYR 200.00/person
- Extra Dives: Add extra boat dives to see more @ MYR 150.00/dive

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba course and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle.
The fun part about this course is…. just about all of it! Learning to dive is simply incredible and you have to do it! You breathe underwater for the first time (something you’ll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified diver.

PADI ADVANCED OPEN WATER COURSE (2nd level)
Exploration, Excitement, Experiences
This is what the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course (aka AOW) is all about. It is designed that you can transition straight into it after the PADI Open Water Diver course. The AOW course helps you increase your confidence and build your scuba skills so you can become more comfortable in the water. This is a great way to get more dives under your belt while continuing to learn under supervision of your PADI instructor.
The AOW course certifies you to dive to a depth of 30meters and is the required certification level in many dive destinations.
COURSE INFORMATION
The course includes 5 adventure dives and can be completed in 2 full days. There will be no final exam and the only homework you have to do is to study the appropriate sections in the AOW online manual (eLearning) and answer the questions at the end of each chapter.
You’ll conduct the following dives:
- Peak Performance Buoyancy
- Underwater Navigation
- Deep Diving
- Night diving (can be changed to another adventure dive if you prefer)
- Final adventure dive for you to choose (i.e. wreck diving, fish identification, drift diving)
COURSE PREREQUISITES
- You must already be a PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent from another organisation)
- You need to be able to answer all questions in the PADI Medical Statement with NO
